ABOUT

High School Junior; Girl Scout Ambassador
When I was younger, I remember constantly questioning why certain friends couldn’t eat certain foods. It never really dawned on me how scary food allergies can be until witnessing allergic reactions; because of this, I wished for something that would help me learn more about how to help friends recognize allergic reactions and seek help when needed. By understanding more about food allergies and being more safe, realizing that they can try new foods as long as they are safe about it.
As a 6-year Girl Scouts of America member, I wanted to create change; this project, acting as my Gold Award, the organization’s highest esteemed honor, allows me to do so. Through this, I plan to educate younger kids about the symptoms of allergies that can emerge from any food so they can pass on this knowledge to their peers & remain aware of their surroundings. More importantly, they can realize that those with food allergies are just like everyone else. They just need to be more cautious.

With the help of my friend, Maile, I created a book to illustrate how you can be a good friend to someone with an allergy. I was able to incorporate my love of creative writing and art in ways that I hope will have an everlasting impact on the public health sector and the world.
